Server Co-location

Our Co-location facilities will provide physical space, power, cooling, security and network connectivity for your server(s).  This program is aimed at providing a basic service, primarily for clients who wish to manage their own systems. For each co-located system, a letter of understanding will be created detailing the service levels, responsibilities, costs, and contacts.

What is included:
  • rack space in an air conditioned and locked data centre and the area is under video surveillance.
  • 15A/120V AC power (not UPS power)
  • 100MB connectivity to the University’s network backbone and an IP address for each device that needs one
  • uptime monitoring (ping) 
Technician Access:
The Client’s designated technician will be given access to the DC Server rooms during regular working hours.  On-site visits must be scheduled in advance.
 
Additional Services:
The Client can consult with Discovery Commons to purchase additional services.  If applicable, a standalone contract will be created.  
 
Additional services can include:
  • Backup services (data and/or applications)
  • Operating System patching
  • Virus Software
  • Software upgrades 
  • Firewall security – initial setup cost of $400 per server. Any future changes to this setup will be billed on a hourly basis at the current hourly rate
  • Additional AC Power and UPS requirements
These additional services will be billed at the standard DC on-demand support hourly rates.  For Clients that may require urgent or emergency system recovery assistance, this may be available at a premium rates depending upon available staffing.

Pricing:  Rack space is rented based on the size of the equipment that is placed in the racks. The cost is $250 per 1U of rack space per year or $500 per non-rack mount server. There is no charge for peripherals (UPS, external hard drive), within reason.
