WebCV

WebCV is a revolutionary online CV management and reporting tool being implemented by the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. The primary goal of the system is to reduce the time and effort required for faculty members to track and report on their academic activity, and thereby to make more accurate and complete activity data available to all levels of the organization on a timelier basis.

In the short term, WebCV will make the administrative work of CV management much easier and more efficient than it has ever been. By providing a single, all-purpose CV management system for individual academic activity review and promotion, WebCV provides ease of revision, flexible reporting and streamlines the process so that it is no longer necessary to maintain records in different formats.

In the long term, it will change the way we think about managing and reporting on intellectual productivity by providing aggregate reporting and benchmarking of academic performance for the Faculty of Medicine, University Departments, Hospitals and Research Institutes.

As of March 2011, 58% of 2,700 full-time Faculty are in the process of implementing WebCV. This includes representation from 8 out of 10 of the fully affiliated hospitals and 12 different university departments.

The Discovery Commons WebCV team currently consists of 13 staff dedicated to implementation activities that are available to provide hands-on support to physicians and staff during the change process.

Dean Catharine Whiteside has said of this project that "given the importance that academic activity data plays in the management of academic healthcare, the WebCV project is the largest and most important project ever undertaken by the Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with its healthcare partners."
