Instructions for Individuals without Remote Desktop to connect to your Shared Drive.
Instructions for individuals who require access to Departmental Shared Drive. This connection only requires a VPN connection with no Remote to your Desktop.
PC users:
- Connect to the VPN
- Open Command Prompt
- type in or copy/paste "net use N: \\medshare.med.utoronto.ca\F /user:medicine\utorid password"
- replace utorid with your actual utorid, and replace 'password' with your actual password you use
- open file explorer and you should see the new path to the shared drive
Mac users:
- connect to the VPN
- open finder
- press Command+K
- in the dialogue box “Connect to Server” enter the following: smb://medshare.medicine.utorad.utoronto.ca/F/Department Shared DriveName – replace the highlighted text with whatever the name of your shared drive is on the network e.g. smb://medshare.medicine.utorad.utoronto.ca/F/radiation oncology
NB: For the MAC, you do need to reconnect the drive each time you VPN in but you will have the file path saved so you just do the command k and press enter each time and you are in for the duration of that VPN session.

Windows 7 End Of Life Notice January 14 2020
As you may know Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 end of life is January 14th 2020. This means that Microsoft will no longer be issuing regular Windows security updates for the Windows 7 and will render any computers using Windows 7 vulnerable to future security attacks. MedIT has been steadily upgrading Faculty of Medicine administrative computers to Windows 10 since 2019 but there are still some remaining.
For administrative computers that have not been upgraded to Windows 10 we have purchased and installed Windows 7 Extended Support Updates (ESU) License to provide continued security updates. If you get any reports from staff members that their Windows 7 license has expired, please have them contact MedIT so that we can ensure the (ESU) Security Upgrade has been applied.
MedIT will continue to upgrade the remaining administrative computers using Windows 7 at no direct cost to units until June 2020. After June 2020 any remaining Windows 7 computer upgrades will be subject to additional license fees and hourly labour costs that will be charged directly to your unit. After June 2020, we may also disable your Windows 7 PC’s access to the network until it has been upgraded to ensure the Faculty’s protection.

15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program
15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program
Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.
Customer safety is always Apple's top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge.
Please visit this link and follow the instructions to see if you are eligible for this program.
